Call for Board Members

Platform is currently seeking 4 new members to join our Board of Directors! Platform is a youth-led nonprofit organization dedicated to building leadership capacity among Black, Indigenous, and racialized young women and gender-diverse youth. Since 2017, Platform has centred the lived experiences of marginalized young women and gender-diverse youth in our work to amplify issues and solutions that are often dismissed within civic institutions and mainstream discourse. Over the last five years, Platform has offered knowledge-sharing and skill-building opportunities to 2000+ young leaders across what is currently known as Canada.

The Role of the Board

The Board of Directors is the volunteer-led governing body of Platform. As a member of the Board of Directors, Directors are responsible for the effective governance, strategic direction, and financial oversight of the organization.The Board of Directors provides strategic leadership, ensures compliance with internal policies and procedures, and ensures overall accountability to our stakeholders.

Attendance and Time Commitment

  • Attendance at monthly Board of Directors meetings – 2 hours
  • Participation in at least one committee (fund development, governance, strategic planning) – 1 ½ hours

All Board members are elected for a two-year mandate and must be able to commit 5-10 hours to Board duties each month. which can be renewed. Candidates may apply from across what is currently Canada.

Duties of Board Members

  • Ensure Platform programs and activities are aligned with its mission.
  • Provide ongoing financial oversight.
  • Support the Managing Director by providing advice and insights that help them perform their duties.
  • Ensure regular and up-to-date strategic planning cycles.
  • Work with the Managing Director to develop new fundraising and development opportunities, with a focus on sustainability and capacity development.
  • Participate in strategic discussions and issues impacting Platform as needed.
  • Advise on procedures and tools to improve planning, sustainability, forecasting, evaluation and reporting processes.

Ideal Qualities for Successful Candidates

Platform invites interested candidates with previous Board experience to apply to our Board of Directors. All candidates must showcase a commitment to improving the lives of Black, Indigenous, and racialized women and gender-diverse people.

We are recruiting four new members to strengthen the skills and capacity of our Board of Directors. We are specifically looking for applications from candidates with experience and knowledge in any of the following areas:

  • Non-profit law
  • Fund development
  • Human Resources
  • Non-profit governance
  • Financial management and oversight
  • Strategic Planning

Qualified candidates are expected to submit their application by Friday, November 18, 2022 at 11:59 PM EDT.

We encourage Black, Indigenous, and racialized women and gender-diverse people, disabled folks, as well as those from low-income backgrounds to apply.
